In 1906, Rihachi Mizuno and his younger brother Rizo founded MIZUNO Brothers Ltd. in Osaka. It was the beginning of a long journey in search of excellence.
Originally, Mizuno was simply an importer of American-made golf and baseball equipment. Dissatisfied with the quality of imported products, Rihachi Mizuno sought to develop more demanding products under his own label, in partnership with local manufacturers. During the war, he was commissioned by the Japanese army to develop the Mizuno Shinryū aircraft. The company began manufacturing tennis rackets in the late 1940s, followed by athletic shoes in the 1970s.
